Dear members, dear friends, and supporters of Mabuhay!
Dentists once again dominated the last few months of the year.
On August 19, Emilie G. and Julia B., both dental students at the University of Hanover, and Dr. K., a dentist from Osnabrück, visited us. Dr. K. brought his daughter Jun-Hie with him so she could gain more insight into her father's work. Dr. K. accompanied the students during their treatments and provided advice and support.
From September 17th to 19th, three of our volunteers took part in a seminar on medicinal plant production and processing. It was held in cooperation with the SHIFT Foundation and the Department of Agriculture. This gave the program local recognition. On September 18th, Sr. Veronica and I were guest speakers at this seminar on medicinal plant processing and packaging. This was the first time a seminar was held at our Medicinal Plant Center, with the practical part held at our medicinal plant production facility. The 25 participants in the workshop were tasked with making aloe vera ointment. They were so into it that they wanted to package malungay tea afterwards. It was a complete success, and the participants were very interested. Our center is the first of its kind in the entire province, and the participants were impressed by the farm, the plant cultivation, and the production facility. Patients at the Mabuhay Clinic have enjoyed the finished products for some time now, and our next step is approval by the Food and Drug Administration. For this, the products must be tested in the laboratory for authenticity and purity.
Almost simultaneously, we were working on completing the outdoor playground. It was somewhat challenging because the local engineers didn't know how to build the raised platform for the slide. The company then sent one of its men, who supervised our local workers. This project was also completed on November 15th, much to the delight of the children in Bugko. They had never seen a playground like this before, and there isn't one anywhere in the entire province. We are very grateful to the Hoffmann Foundation for making these two playgrounds possible for us.
On September 27th, Dr. Carsten Hansen and his wife, Doris, visited our dental clinic for the fifth time. The focus of their visit was on our fluoride children. We have been running the fluoride prophylaxis program for many years, with support from the German Dental Aid Association and our guest dentists. From the very beginning, Dr. Hansen's children were close to his heart, so we invited them daily for fluoridation and, if necessary, dental treatment. Thanks to Dr. Hansen's experienced hands, the children quickly gained trust, and many teeth were saved.
As previously reported, our senior day care center is very popular. In addition to games, afternoons, and meetings, we also offer gymnastics and dance classes. Thanks to the Siegburg Rotary Club, we were able to equip the center with an air conditioning unit, so it's not as hot inside. This additional equipment has really paid off and helps the seniors a lot. Hopefully, a donor can be found for the second air conditioning unit needed.
Our last guest this year was Tanas M., a dentist from Sankt Augustin. She arrived on October 27th and stayed until November 15th. She studied in my hometown of Bonn. Like Dr. Hansen, she was particularly interested in children. She also helped many adult patients.
Another eventful year lies behind us. Many patients came to us for help. Thanks to your help, we were able to help so many people and do good. We also had many visitors who actively supported our work on-site. Thank you/SALAMAT for all your help and support! Be it financial support or donations-in-kind. Every bit of help is appreciated! And where it is needed, so I wish you a happy Advent season and a blessed Christmas. Your grateful,
